Founder of Coletta Law
As a graduate of NYU Law, Becky Coletta, founder of Coletta Law Office, has been providing legal counsel, strategy and representation for clients both large and small for about 20 years. She has honed her skills in negotiating and drafting complex business agreements, managing litigation and advising in international and domestic transactions. With her extensive corporate experience as an in house counsel, Becky knows what it is like to work within a company and to contribute to its success. This is the same attitude she brings to the clients she serves in her own practice.
Becky Coletta is a business attorney who has worked with large and small companies over the last 20 years to meet their varied legal needs. Becky has a substantial amount of in-house legal experience from her work with PanAmSat Corporation where she served in a number of positions, including Associate General Counsel. PanAmSat was the world's first private global satellite communications company. Becky handled transactions for the provision of satellite-based telecommunications and video transmission services during its growth from a single-satellite system to a system with more than twenty satellites. Becky drafted and negotiated agreements with broadcast and data clients in the United States and several foreign countries, including China, Singapore, India, Taiwan, Germany, Argentina and Brazil, for video distribution and backhaul, data and telephony networks, and internet and teleport services. She also negotiated agreements for the acquisition of digital video equipment, the establishment of operating and marketing relationships and other commercial and regulatory relationships. In addition, she worked in the developmental stages of direct-to-home television projects in foreign markets. Becky's duties also included managing outside litigation in international taxation, employment, antitrust and contractual matters, as well as managing paralegals and attorneys responsible for PanAmSat's customer contracts.
As an attorney in private practice, Becky has represented companies in transactions such as the sale of closely held businesses, developing forms of business agreements, drafting shareholder agreements, drafting and negotiating licensing agreements, developing corporate policies and providing general business counseling. When needed, Becky works with tax advisors and other attorneys to meet the legal needs of her clients.
Becky began her career as a litigation associate in the New York office of an international law firm. There she began to understand businesses through her cases involving contract, trademark, patent and copyright issues.
Becky earned her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the NYU School of Law in 1990, where she received honors, including election to the Order of the Coif, an American Jurisprudence prize in Conflicts of Laws, and graduation awards as the outstanding woman graduate and the overall outstanding graduate for scholarship, character and professional activities. Becky was an editor-in-chief of the NYU Review of Law & Social Change. Upon leaving law school, Becky served as a law clerk to the Honorable Kathleen Roberts, U.S. Magistrate Judge, S.D.N.Y. Becky also holds a B.A. in Communications from Loyola University New Orleans and a Masters in Social Work from Bridgewater State College.
Becky is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the South Shore Women's Business Network. Becky has served in a variety of community activities over the years and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the South Shore Women's Business Network and is a member of the Hanson Kiwanis Club. She previously served as a member of the Board of Selectmen and as the Chair of the Cable TV Advisory Committee for the town of Hanson, MA.
